The late Margaret Patton
Mrs. Margaret Patton, of Killucan, who died on February 5, was originally from Clonard, but had lived and worked in a number of places before settling in her final home, some years back.Mrs. Patton, nee Hayes, travelled to the UK in her youth to work as a nurse in Birmingham, and while there, married her husband, Patrick, who was a native of Donegal, and who, sadly, predeceased her in 1992.The couple returned to Ireland in 1969, nine years after their marriage, and the lived in Moynalty and later Navan and back in Clonard, but ultimately made Killucan their home.Extremely devout, Mrs. Patton was a member of the Legion of Mary for many years, and lived by her faith. She was also, in her latter years, a member of the Golden Years Club in Killucan/Raharney, and also enjoyed attending activities at Serenity House in Kinnegad.A woman who was very creative, Mrs. Patton greatly enjoyed painting, and she was also talented at handcrafts, particularly crochet. Her interests weren't confined to crafting and painting however: she was also a very keen gardener, and she derived great pleasure from gardening, and enjoyed having well-kept surroundings.Aged 79, Mrs. Patton had been in good health, and her death, at her home, came suddenly.The removal took place from the St. Camillus Nursing Centre Chapel in Killucan to St. Mary's Church Kinnegad. Fr. Frank Monks celebrated a moving Mass for Mrs. Patton at St. Camillus Chapel before the removal to Kinnegad, where the remains were greeted by Fr. Tom Gilroy, with Monsignor Eamon Marron in attendance and at the funeral, Fr. Gilroy was joined by Fr. Richard Matthews, Killucan.The remains were interred at St. Finian's Cemetery, Clonard.Mrs. Patton is survived by her three sons - Anthony, who lives in Perth, Australia, Paul, who lives in Raharney, and Colm who lives in Tralee; by her daughters-in-law, and by, in Australia, two grandsons, a granddaughter and a great grandson; and in Ireland, three granddaughters.Mrs. Patton is also survived by her sisters, Agnes Brennan, Australia; Anna Moore, Birmingham; Betty Rogers, Mullingar and Sheila Reilly, Dublin; as well as by her brothers, Philip, in Los Angeles, and Willie and John, Clonard, as well as by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
