More than 770 people took part in Ashling Murphy 4 Miler 2025 in Tullamore on Sunday, among them large numbers from Mullingar Harriers.
Seán Tobin of Clonmel AC, in 19m 18s, and Hannah Steed, Leevale AC, in 22:03, were the first finishers.
Ashling’s sister Amy presented Hannah with the Ashling Murphy Perpetual Trophy.
Behind Seán were Éanna O’Brádaigh of DSD AC in second, and Kevin Minnock of Tullamore Harriers AC in third. Behind Hannah were Sarah Flanagan of Tullamore Harriers in second, and Orlaith Flanagan of Mullingar Harriers AC in third.
John Cronin, former president of Athletics Ireland, officially welcomed all to the fourth running of the event.
Ashling’s parents, Ray and Kathleen Murphy, were present at the start line, and Kathleen joined family and friends in walking the 4-mile route, while Ray led out the runners on his motorbike, joined by fellow members of Camcor Riders, who also assisted with marshal duties along the course.
Offaly Athletics and the Ashling Murphy Foundation extended sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success, including special thanks to the Ballyboy Comhaltas, whose performances along the route lifted the spirits of everyone passing by.
They also expressed gratitude to: Offaly County Council; An Garda Síochána Laois/Offaly; Seamus Walsh for barriers and Donal Rigney for the portable toilets; Offaly Civil Defence; staff at Bank of Ireland: “We had tremendous help from Claire Wynne, Olive Geraghty, Orla Spollen, Valerie Whittle, William Minnock, Ellen Maree Clavin, Elaine Heffernan, Maeve Jeffery and Leonard Mooney.”
Others they thanked were: Barry Minnock and Centra; Noel McCann and staff from the Bridge House; John Cusack, Bridge Shopping Centre; Tullamore Camera Club; Anto from Pop Up Races; the many supporting athletic clubs.
