Weafer Mile one of highlights on sports days at Wilson's

The end of the year sports events at Wilson’s start with sports evening, and the Weafer Mile is the first activity; it is named for Joe Weafer, who had a huge influence on sport and students at Wilson’s.

It is a competitive race every year. After it, there were some novelty events including piggy back races, sack races and wheelbarrow races. Senior students then competed in a mixed tag-rugby tournament and the juniors were involved in a mixed soccer tournament.

The staff played a Form 6 tag rugby team in what was a competitive game.

The evening ended with the annual limbo competitions in the Weafer Hall.

Sports day is organised by the PE department at Wilson’s and is another day with an emphasis on fun events, when staff often step out of supervising duties to take part in some.

There was ice cream at break time to keep the energy levels up and then the events started again with dodge ball, races, rounders, soccer, tag rugby and the popular tug-o-war.

Sports day concluded with the presentation of sports prizes reflecting the wide range available at Wilson’s Hospital School.

Local prize winners are in the accompanying photographs. The weather was amazing and everyone really enjoyed the events.
