Collinstown calming works
Work on the installation of traffic calming measures in Collinstown is due to begin in the second quarter of this year, Cllr David Jones was assured at the March meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.
"I’d be delighted to see that," he said. "It’s getting worse out there lately. There’s a lot of car meets and a huge amount of complaints coming in about cars speeding through the town so that would be welcome."
Clonmellon ramps
At the same meeting, Cllr Jones asked for an indication on when ramps will be installed on the Kilskyre and Killallon road in Clonmellon, but was told that was not possible.
However, the written response continued, the district engineer had agreed to examine the location to determine the traffic calming required and seek a funding source.
"With the playground opening up shortly, I do think we need a traffic ramp on the Killallon Road," Cllr Jones said, adding that he had a concern that the issue might end up being long-fingered unless a funding source was found.
Coole and Glenidan lights
The need for lighting at Coole and Glenidan was also raised with the executive of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad by Cllr Jones.
He proposed that the district make a funding application for street lights to be added on the Multyfarnham road in Coole out to the graveyard and for street lighting in Glenidan, where many community events take place at the crossroads.
The response from the district to both requests was that applications for CLÁR/CRF funding for the projects could be made when these funds are next open for applications.
Support came from Cllr Alfie Devine.
