Kinnegad Women's Shed host Alzheimer's Tea Day

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland held a Tea Day at Serenity House in Kinnegad, on Friday, May 16, in collaboration with the Kinnegad Women’s Shed.

The ladies involved with the Women’s Shed provided tea, coffee, sandwiches and other treats for all visitors, and everyone from the community was welcome to call in and say hello.

Serenity House is often used for community gatherings and by groups like Kinnegad Women’s shed – the facility was set up ideally for the Tea Day, and the outside terracing area was open for those wishing to bask in the sunshine.

Kinnegad Women’s Shed often organise activities for the local community, and members carried out a similar style tea day last year in aid of cancer research.

Geraldine Holmes, one of the members of the shed, praised the local community and the group as a whole, saying: “We couldn’t have asked for a better response from everyone involved.

“We had something similar to this last year, where we did it for cancer, and we love to do it for causes like this, so we said we should do it for Alzheimer’s this year.

“It was fantastic, both of them, and I just can’t speak highly enough for the Women of the Shed – they are just fantastic.

“The community of Kinnegad have been brilliant as well, they just took to it and helped us out so much.

“These women involved here may not talk much, but their actions are what’s important. You can see it when you look at them helping, they are brilliant, and really, it’s a wonderful experience for us all to be involved in.

“It’s so special to see this building back in use, it was closed for a while, but it was built for this very reason for elderly people and members of the community to use, and now it’s being used for that again.”
