Serious incident involving large number of people on McCurtain Street being investigated
Gardaí in Mullingar are appealing for information following what they describe as a serious incident at McCurtain Street yesterday afternoon.
There have been two arrests and two people are to appear at Athlone District Court today.
It was a serious public order incident involving a large number of people, said gardaí.
Officers are making an appeal for any witnesses who have dashcam or camera footage to make it available to them, and to contact the garda station on 0449384000.
A garda spokesperson said the incident is being taken seriously and full resources are being put into the investigation.
Separately, an eye witness who was present at the time told the Westmeath Examiner they saw what they described as “two gangs wearing balaclavas” and at least one was carrying “a large wooden” implement.
They were advised by gardaí to leave the area quickly.
They said five garda vehicles were present at the scene.
