Man in his 80s dies in Castlepollard house fire

Gardai are investigating an incident where a man in his 80s lost his life in a house fire in the Gilbertstown area of Castlepollard.

A statement from Garda Press Office confirmed the incident saying: "Gardaí are investigating the death of a man aged in his 80s following a fire that occurred at a residence in the Gilbertstown area of Castlepollard, Westmeath at approximately 1am this morning, Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed to the mortuary at Mullingar Mortuary where a post mortem examination is due to take place."

Gardaí also confirmed that foul play is not suspected at this time.
