Mullingar junior parkrun celebrates 100th event
The sun beamed down as 58 children completed the 100th junior park run in Mullingar on Sunday June 1.
The Old Rail Trail junior parkrun and its older brother on Saturday mornings are known for their fun and positive atmosphere and have become a fixture on many local families' weekend schedules.
Also celebrating a milestone last Sunday was Martin Murphy, one of the main drivers in setting up the junior parkrun in Mullingar, who reached his 200th volunteer credit between both adult and junior parkruns.
Martin was one of a core group of volunteers that got the junior parkrun up and running in 2023. Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength. He credits the success of the parkrun to the team volunteers who keep the whole show going. He says that the team of organisers are delighted when new faces come on board to lessen the load.
"We are always looking for volunteers, so please get in touch if you can help out even if it's only occasionally. "It's a wonderful community event with lots of kids starting off their Sunday on a healthy and positive note."
