Council invites Kilbeggan residents to join town team
Westmeath County Council invited members of the public to join the Kilbeggan Town Team at a meeting in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, April 4. The meeting aimed to form the town team and make sure that a local person represented each of the council’s sectors.
Town Teams have been formed across the country, as part of the government’s Town Centre First Policy, which aims to revitalise rural towns and villages.
Town teams from across Westmeath have carried out ‘Walkability’ events in Castlepollard, Rochfortbridge, Kinnegad and Kilbeggan over the last two months.
The walkability events are for locals to look at their towns in detail, assessing the safety of their streets, roads, public spaces and buildings.
The data is then brought forward to the council to try and establish what the towns and villages need to thrive.
Jason McCormack of Westmeath County Council spoke at the meeting, saying: “Hopefully, as things progress and we get more established, we can meet up in about four months’ time, using what we have done today.
“At these future meetings, we will discuss what the town teams are planning, and how they are representing the town, and then these sector groups that we create today can have a chance to discuss what the town team needs to focus on.”
