Westmeath County Council decision on TVRS schemes due

Westmeath County Council are to make an announcement on which population centres will receive funding under the most recent phase of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS), under ‘Realising our Rural Potential’ and part of a package of national and local support measures to rejuvenate rural towns and villages.

The scheme focuses on social, economic and cultural matters. All towns and villages in Westmeath, apart from Athlone and Mullingar, are eligible for consideration.

Delvin is one urban areas seeking to benefit from the scheme. It was recently outlined that the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District executive has worked with Delvin Amenity Development Group and Delvin Tidy Towns to develop a town and village renewal application to enhance Delvin.

Cllr David Jones initially raised the matter at a Mullingar Kinnegad MD meeting at the end of last year. He more recently called on the MD to give an update on progress of the application.

He was told the council’s community development section indicated the expression of interest for the Delvin streetscape enhancement project is being considered under the TVRS 2025.

A final decision on which projects will be developed will take into consideration the capacity of the applicants to deliver the projects within the given timeframes.

Elected representatives were told that all applications awarded a grant from the department will have the support of the Municipal District and the Community Development section of the local authority.
