McCormack's Bar in Castlepollard to host mental health awareness day

McCormack’s Bar in Castelpollard is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, July 5, at 2 p.m. to raise funds for mental health awareness.

Multiple events are planned for the evening, with a disco and activities for children from 2 pm to 5 pm, a barbecue from 2 pm to 7 pm, and raffle prizes throughout the night.

There will also be live music from 2 pm until late that evening, with a variety of local bands and performers.

Kevin Fitzpatrick, the owner of McCormack's bar said: “We started last year, and it was unbelievable.

“We got calls from people saying how happy they were with it, just to be able to stand and talk to someone in a place where it's not frowned upon and they felt that it was good just to get it out there.”

Speaking on the importance of these events, Kevin said: “The thing is, people don't talk about it, and that's where the problem lies.

“So our aim is to try and get everyone together, get the music going, and try and make sure people understand that it is good to talk to each other.

“It’s always going to be beneficial for someone's mental health to come out and engage with people, and share your problems instead of holding them in.”
