Road safety issues raised by Mullingar-Kinnegad MD Mayor Dollard
A number of road safety and maintenance issues were raised at the June meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar-Kinnegad, by Mayor Mick Dollard.
Mayor Dollard called on the council to address the deteriorating road markings on Patrick Street. Officials confirmed that reinstatement works at Patrick Street will take place as part of ongoing road maintenance across the district and on the question of the ramp near Dunnes Stores, they stated that the ramp crossing is scheduled to be replaced within the next two months.
In a separate motion, Cllr Dollard asked whether a traffic calming measure could be introduced in Beech Grove, particularly near the pedestrian entrance to St Colman’s National School. Council officials responded that the possibility of installing a ramp will be examined.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Dollard stressed the importance of addressing the issue, noting increased traffic in the area due to school drop-offs.
“A number of people have come to me about that particular road,” he said. “There’s a pedestrian access into the back of St Colman’s School and people are driving into Beech Grove off the Dublin Road. An additional ramp would certainly improve safety.”
He suggested a site visit might be helpful to assess the situation.
