A little taste of mindfulness

Mullingar Mindfulness returned to Mullingar Arts Centre on Sunday, August 10, again organised by Siobhán Moore, and featuring a wide range of activities suitable for all ages.

The event ran from 10am to 4pm and included workshops in yoga, meditation, Pilates, breathwork, nutrition, art, and more. For younger attendees, there was the Kind Kids Club, face painting, children’s singing, and massage.

Mary Kate, a yoga instructor who teaches by the lakeside at Lough Owel, had classes in the morning. She said: “I did a mindfulness class to help people stretch and focus on the present and let go of stress.”

Pilates N91 offered reformer Pilates techniques for strength and flexibility, and Lucy Looby, a nutrition and health coach from Raharney, gave a talk on “key nutrition principles in just half an hour.”

Younis and Sara Lee from Neuro Sensei introduced Tai Chi fundamentals, describing it as “movement meditation training.” Darren Giles from The Shed in Kinnegad shared his experience as a kinesiologist, energy healer, and breathwork facilitator, explaining how his converted family farm shed became a dedicated wellness space.

The day concluded at 7.30pm with a theatrical performance, ‘The Feather’ featuring singing, dancing and music as well as Qigong, Tai Chi and Yoga, in a choreographed fashion. Siobhán, who also runs the Dionysus School of Dance, which she established 21 years ago, wrote and produced ‘The Feather’.

All proceeds from the workshops went to Relay for Life Westmeath, supporting those affected by cancer. Relay For Life – which is on September 20 at Tyrrellspass GAA Club – takes place this year for the first time in Westmeath.
