Last chance for input on Dublin Road development

The opportunity for public submissions on the proposed Active Travel development on the Dublin Road and Ardmore Road in Mullingar comes to a conclusion shortly.

The public consultation has been open since July 21, and concludes next Monday, August 18, 2025.

Westmeath County Council have indicated that they intend to carry out the development at Dublin Road, from the N52 Marlinstown Roundabout to the area in the vicinity of Bellview Clinic; Ardmore Road, from its roundabout junction with Dublin Road and Petitswood Close to the entrance to Ardmore Hills; and all junctions along these roadways.

The scheme is approximately 2.5km in length. Included in the proposals are improvements to footpaths, a two-way segregated cycle tracks for 1.7km and provision of 330m of shared pedestrian and cyclist paths.

Among the route will be bus stop infrastructure, pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures. The local authority intends to upgrade the existing National Science Park Roundabout, including pedestrian crossing facilities at all junctions.

The scheme will tie in to the existing Active Travel facilities on the Ardmore Road and the existing on-road cycle paths on the Dublin Road approaching the Delvin Road Junction.

The public consultation is a requirement of the Part 8 development, that is, any development undertaken by the local authority.

Any person can apply to An Coimisiún Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the proposed development would be likely to have significant effects on the environment.

Plans and particulars of the proposed development are available for inspection at the offices of Westmeath County Council, Áras An Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar, or on the local authority website.

Written submissions or observations received will form part of a statutory report to be presented to a meeting of Westmeath County Council and will form part of a public document.

Details, including the names of those making submissions, may be shared with relevant Council Departments or their agents involved in this Part 8 process.
