Landmark Tullamore pub changes ownership after three decades

A landmark business in the heart of Tullamore has changed ownership after three decades of prominence in the hospitality industry.

Under the ownership of Fergie and Mairead Quinn since 1995, Fergie's Bar welcomed customers to the popular public house at its prime Market Square location, a Facebook post this week confirming that the business had been sold after three decades, the new owners taking over the business on July 30.

Expressing gratitude to his loyal customers who supported Fergie's Bar during their 30 year ownership, Fergie also thanked the staff who have served with him during his time in business.

"Myself and Mairead would like to thank all our family, loyal staff and of course our loyal customers over the last 30 years. We have made so many friends in Fergie’s over the years and also lost so many friends over the years. Would you believe, when we started in 1995, we still have the same customers who we were still serving in 2025, hard to believe. Thank you so much," Fergie said.

Fergie also paid tribute to the numerous sports club in the community who have supported the pub through the years of trade.

"A special thanks to so many GAA clubs, especially Cappincur GAA who we have sponsored from our first day and all the soccer, rugby, pitch and putt clubs who have supported us," Fergie added.

Fergie thanked his fellow publicans for their support and also complimented the many local musicians who graced Fergie's Bar with their live entertainment.

During his three decade tenure, Fergie said in his post that "a lot has changed".

"We lost some amazing people who worked with us over the years, Siobhain O Neill, Pauline Brennan, Nigel Costello, Frank McEvoy and Jordon Murphy. These were all amazing people. We will never forget them. We also lost some amazing customers. We will never forget them and are thinking of all their families.

"I personally would like to thank especially my wife Mairead, daughter Alannah and my mother for everything over the years," Fergie said.

While Fergie currently contends with a "small health issue" at the moment, it is his intention to host a party in due course to celebrate his 30 years in business with his loyal customers, staff members, family and friends.

Fergie welcomed the retention of the name 'Fergie's Bar' under the new ownership wishing the "new owners the very best of luck".

"It was a pleasure working in Tullamore for the past 41 years. I will see you all shortly hopefully," the social media post concluded.
