Westmeath crews place well in local club's endurance trial

Several local crews placed well in the Westmeath and District Motor Club endurance trial last week, headquartered at Pollard Karting.

It was the second year of the event, and Johnny Corrigan returned as clerk of the course to oversee an entry of 35 vehicles which competed in various farm lanes around the area.

The overall winners were Robert Howard and Andrew Stewart in a Toyota Starlet. Westmeath club members taking included Daniel Buckley and Conor Lennon, first in Class A2B and seventh overall in a Toyota Starlet; and Dominic Loughran and Lisa Roe, who were second in Class B and 15th overall in a Suzuki Swift.

Maurice Mooney and Michael McNamee came fourth in Class A2B and 18th overall in a Starlet; Darren Moore and Liam Tuomey took third overall in another Starlet; Ernest Alford and Declan Tuomey came third in Class A2S and 23rd overall.

Noel Smith and Jason Smith were second in Class A2N and 27th overall; Darragh Mullen and Aideen Lynch were first in Class A2S and fifth overall in a Starlet. John Carter and Derek Lynch finished third in Class A2N and 29th overall in a Toyota Corolla.

Gerard Fahy and Ronan Manley were ninth in Class A2B and 34th overall in a Toyota Yaris; Michael Halpin and Alan Hannon were eighth in Class A2B and 31st overall in a Starlet; Joe Canning and Edward Kelly were seventh in Class A2B and 26th overall in a Yaris.

James McDermott and Colin Halpin were second in Class A1 and eighth overall in a Yaris; Declan Burke and Eoin Longworth were third in Class C and 24th overall in a Subaru Forester.
