Westmeath Style Awards 2018 are Launched!

This year’s Westmeath Style Awards, sponsored once again by Specsavers, were launched on Thursday last in The Greville Arms Hotel. Now in its fourth year and a joint initiative between the Westmeath Examiner and Westmeath Independent, the Style Awards are a celebration of the businesses and entrepreneurs in the local health, fashion, and beauty sectors.

Members of the public can nominate their favourite hair salons, boutiques or fitness classes – or entrepreneurs can also nominate their own business. In the last four years, hundreds of businesses have been nominated and more than 50 firms have made it to the finals each year.
This year’s final takes place in The Greville Arms on Friday May 25. Last year, the overall winner was Athlone florist, Room in Bloom, while in 2016 Mullingar’s Montgomery Millinery went home with the top prize.

At the launch of the 2018 Westmeath Style Awards in The Greville Arms Hotel last Thursday morning were, (back from left) Sophie Freeman, digital assistant, Celtic Media Group; Jennifer Meehan, advertising executive, Westmeath Examiner; Amanda Brady, advertising executive, Westmeath Independent; Pauline Bliss, Caroline Toal, Michelle Bray and Liz Reynolds, Slimming World (sponsor); Dr Anne O’Donnell, Mullingar Dental; John (Banjo) Quinn, Slimming World; Sandra McCann, advertising executive, Westmeath Examiner; Emma Larkin-Keyes, advertising executive, Westmeath Independent; Teresa Bolger, advertising executive, Westmeath Examiner; Ciara Cox, digital manager, Celtic Media Group; (seated, at front) John Cochrane, general manager, Greville Arms Hotel; Mary McGuigan, group commercial manager, Celtic Media Group; Hugh Morris and Elaine McGovern, directors, Specsavers; and Padraic Martin, advertising manager, Westmeath Examiner/Westmeath and Offaly Independent.

Speaking at the launch, Padraic Martin, advertising manager with Celtic Media Group, said that the event has grown in popularity year on year, which is a testament to the business community in the county and the ongoing support of Specsavers and other sponsors, “who were instrumental in getting the Style Awards off the ground in the very beginning”.

Many of the previous award winners still have their awards on display in their businesses, which Mr Martin hoped was a “sign that we are doing something right”.

“People clearly value the awards and the recognition that they bring to their businesses,” he said.
The three finalists in each of the categories will not only receive coverage in the Westmeath Examiner and Westmeath Independent in the weeks leading up to the event, they will also feature on both papers’ websites and on their social media platforms.
