Silver jubilee shipment by Moate Bóthar Supporters Group
The Moate Supporters Group is marking a significant milestone in 2025 as it celebrates its silver jubilee, 25 years of supporting Bóthar, the Irish aid agency that sends livestock to families in need overseas.
Since its foundation, the Moate Supporters Group has embodied Bóthar’s ethos of farm families in Ireland helping farm families overseas. Through the generosity of Westmeath farming families and supporters, animals have been donated, reared, and shipped to communities where they provide food, income, and long-term security.
Over the last quarter century, the group’s efforts have helped transform lives in countries including Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Kosovo and Romania. Each animal sent has represented a practical resource and also a message of hope and solidarity from Irish farmers to their counterparts abroad.
The commemorative 25-year shipment will depart from Roscrea to Kosovo this autumn. It marks the final shipment to be organised by the group, bringing to a close 25 years of service. It is dedicated to all who have supported the Moate Supporters Group over the years from donors and volunteers to members past and present.
Reflecting on the group’s history, local volunteers Pat Allen and Colm Doyle said: “It has been a privilege to work alongside so many local volunteers, farmers, and donors. Looking back over 25 years, we can’t help but feel proud of what has been accomplished.”
