Multyfarnham scarecrows outstanding in their field
Multyfarnham Tidy Towns are outstanding in their field – we know that – and now they have confirmed it, as they are holding their inaugural Scarecrow and Harvest Festival, on Sunday September 21.
A community event, it is a celebration of local produce, fostering creativity, and showcasing the amenities and community spirit of the village.
On the day of judging, attendees can look forward to music, games, and more. The Harvest Festival will feature stalls at Gaine Park, offering an array of local products from honey to home baking. In the event of inclement weather, the stalls will be relocated to the community hall.
But what exactly is a Scarecrow Festival? These festivals, popular in various towns and villages in Ireland and worldwide, serve as a fun way to engage the entire community.
Traditionally, scarecrows have safeguarded crops from birds, and modern-day festivals aim to unite different groups, businesses, schools, and residents, reviving a sense of community often overshadowed by technology and hectic lifestyles.
Prize categories include business, schools and traditional (and more).
The organisers suggest that those seeking ideas and inspiration consider using recycled materials when crafting their scarecrows, and say that, from small window displays to elaborate group installations, the possibilities are endless.
“The key is to create a scarecrow that reflects your identity and interests.”
Schools can opt for a classroom-themed display, churches may choose a wedding motif, and garages could showcase a mechanic at work. Families inclined towards cartoons or movies can bring characters like the Simpsons or superheroes to life.
“Join us for a day filled with creativity, community bonding, and the spirit of harvest as we come together for the Scarecrow and Harvest Festival in Multyfarnham.”
