Frank Gavigan CCÉ to launch DVD on history of branch
The Frank Gavigan branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann are launching a DVD in the Annebrook House Hotel this week (Wednesday September 17). It includes clips and information on their branch and showcases members past and present.
Granddaughter of Mick Foster, Sarah Jane Foster, produced the DVD and is helping to launch it alongside her grandfather.
A spokesperson from the Frank Gavigan Branch said: “We decided to do a bit of research and find some information on people who may have been dead and gone, so that we could put them on a short DVD.
“We also managed to get a little bit of history on the group, and mainly it’s about keeping a bit of information out there on the record, so that when we are gone, there is some information out there about the branch.”
Mick Foster, who will be present at the launch night, said: “It’s great to have. It’s not too long, just around 27 minutes, but we try to cover as much as we can without having it drag on.”
The title of the work is ‘Echoes of Milltown and Rathconrath, Music through the Generations’. There will be finger food and a raffle at the launch, and music by the Rathconrath Ceili Band.
If you would like to attend, call 087 262 4242. There will be a bus to and from the Annebrook, picking up at Milltown school, McCawley’s of Moyvore and Gunnings of Rathconrath (€5 per person) – contact Paddy Gavigan on 086 3030 589.
