WinterFest to bring Christmas market and ice rink to Mullingar

Mullingar is set for a lively festive season with confirmation that WinterFest 2025 will run from late November to early January.

At the September meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District, Cllr Julie McCourt asked what events were planned for the Christmas markets this year and whether the public and local businesses could be engaged on what they would like to see in the town.

In response, officials confirmed that WinterFest will once again feature Mullingar Skates, the popular ice rink, which will operate from November 22 until January 5. The Chamber of Commerce will also facilitate a town centre Christmas market as part of the festival, with the aim of supporting local enterprise and attracting footfall into Mullingar over the festive period.

Cllr McCourt was informed that consultation with stakeholders has already begun, and further details are to be announced at a press launch in the coming weeks.

Cllr McCourt said she had spoken to people who would like to have more input into the planning of the celebrations. Director of services, Deirdre Reilly, explained that the Chamber of Commerce leads the initiative and welcomes contributions from the community.

“They are always looking for volunteers and ideas,” she said, adding that anyone interested should call into the Chamber office on Market Square for guidance.
