Ennell Park fencing plan welcomed

A long-running safety concern in the Ennell Park estate in Mullingar is set to be addressed with new fencing along the canal boundary.

Cllr Ken Glynn, who has repeatedly raised the issue, thanked the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District for stepping in: “This should have happened a long time ago, and the residents are absolutely delighted.” He added that traffic calming is also needed in the estate, and suggested that if budget remains at year-end, ramps should be installed.

District engineer Pat Kavanagh confirmed that a fencing contractor is due on site within three to four weeks, and resurfacing and ramp installation will also be carried out if possible. “We’ve agreed to fence the area along the canal,” he said. “The other section will be fenced by the housing developer, so both areas will be finished.”
