Tracey Fox and Richie Geoghegan ready for a fight for the cup!

Twenty goals and loads of laughs as hospital teams go head to head

The X-Ray Department and ED Department of Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, went head to head in a charity game in aid of the Irish Cancer Society at Mullingar Town AFC’s grounds on Saturday.

Despite the rain earlier in the day, the skies cleared up a bit to allow the hospital departments to take part in what was a great game, and the X-ray team came out on top.

The 11-9 scoreline reflected the atmosphere on the day, as there was hardly one person at the grounds who wasn’t smiling or laughing.

Richie Geoghegan, one of the organisers, spoke to the Westmeath Examiner after the match: “We are so delighted with the turnout and happy with how the weather turned out.

“Tracy and I came up with this idea on night shift, because we both lost our mammies to cancer and wanted to give a little back.”

Tracy Fox added: “We are just amazed with the money we have raised so far, although we don’t have the final figure yet, but it seems like everyone had fun, and that’s all we wanted.

“We just wanted to have a bit of craic, and try to lift a bit of morale in the hospital as well, and we seem to have gotten a great response.”

It looks set to be a regular thing, as Richie and Tracy are already planning on doing something similar for a different charity every year.
