Councillors urging for more flowers

Councillors want more flowers

A request that the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad consider extending the summer flower arrangements to streets in Mullingar not currently included in the scheme, was made by Cllr Bill Collentine at the district’s September meeting.

“It needs to be extended into Patrick Street and Castle Street and Austin Friars Street,” said Cllr Collentine, adding that the flower displays make the town seem more welcoming.

By way of response, the district officials stated that they will examine the floral arrangements in 2026 with a view to extending them.

Supporting the call, Cllr Julie McCourt said she had previously requested that flowers be put in place on the Joe Dolan Bridge, and while the response provided stated that there were flowers on the bridge, she was disappointed to see that there were just “two small pots”, one either end of the bridge.

She said that what she’d had in mind more in the line of hanging baskets.
