IAP grant of $7,000 for Scoil Mhuire Loughegar astroturf
Scoil Mhuire Loughegar has received a grant of $7,000 from the Irish American Partnership (IAP) to assist in the development of a new astroturf pitch.
The contribution marks another milestone in the long-standing relationship between the school and the IAP, an organisation, that connects Irish and Irish-American communities through education-focused philanthropy. It has already donated $1,000 towards maths and literacy resources and $3,000 towards the new school library.
The astroturf pitch project will provide students with a modern, all-weather sports surface, improving opportunities for outdoor activity and team sports at Scoil Mhuire.
Larry Furlong, a IAP member of the IAP with personal ties to the school, said he is delighted to see the project come to life. "It’s wonderful to be able to support Scoil Mhuire Loughegar in this way, especially as I have family connections to the school. The new pitch will benefit generations of students to come."
Founded in 1986, the IAP works to empower Irish youth and communities through targeted support for schools, educational programsme, and rural development. It has directed millions of dollars in funding to schools and educational initiatives across Ireland, often focusing on disadvantaged areas and smaller rural communities.
Niall Brennan, principal of Scoil Mhuire Loughegar, welcomed the news and expressed deep gratitude for the ongoing support from the IAP. "This grant is a tremendous boost to our school. The new astroturf pitch will be a fantastic resource for our pupils, and we’re sincerely thankful to the Irish American Partnership for their continued generosity and belief in our school."
Construction of the astroturf pitch is now under way.
