Man on hospital disturbance charges undergoing addiction treatment, court is told
A Mullingar man accused of causing a disturbance at the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar has been afforded further time to clarify how he intends meeting the case after it was revealed he is undergoing a residential treatment programme.
David Fenton, of 36 Lynn Heights, Mullingar, Westmeath, had been due to attend last week’s sitting of Mullingar District Court to face two charges resulting from a public order disturbance at the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar on April 2, 2025.
Mr Fenton was charged with public intoxication and using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour as a consequence.
When the case was called last Thursday, defence solicitor Louis Kiernan said Mr Fenton would not be present as he was undergoing a 20-week stay at Coolmine, a drug and alcohol treatment centre.
Judge Owens agreed to an adjournment and put the matter back to Mullingar District Court on October 2.
