MRFC U14 Boys show spirit in Midlands League opener

The Mullingar RFC U14 Boys kicked off their Midlands League campaign on Friday night (September 26) with a trip to Moate to face Midlands Warriors.

Mullingar started strongly, showing promise in attack, but an unfortunate accidental collision left them down to 14 players for the remainder of the game. Despite this setback, the lads matched their opponents in an entertaining contest that ebbed and flowed throughout.

It wasn’t until the final 10 minutes that Warriors managed to break clear, running in two late tries to seal the result.

Although the scoreline went against them, the Mullingar boys demonstrated excellent structure, passing, work rate and tenacity, leaving plenty of positives to take into the season ahead.

MRFC U16 Girls secure impressive victory

The Mullingar RFC U16 Girls side got their season off to the best possible start with a strong win over Midland Warriors at the weekend.

The Mullingar team dominated throughout, combining powerful running, slick handling, and solid defence to secure a convincing result.

Coach Ray Murphy was full of praise for the team afterwards: “The girls were excellent today. Their work rate and attitude were spot on, and they thoroughly deserved the win.”

The victory provides a strong platform for the U16 Girls as they look ahead to the rest of their league campaign.

Mullingar RFC hosts coaching workshop on retaining teenage girls in sport

Mullingar RFC played host to a valuable coaching workshop at Shay Murtagh Park at the weekend, with volunteer coaches from across the Midlands attending.

The session focused on the theme of keeping teenage girls engaged in sport, a key challenge for clubs across the country. Attendees took part in discussions and practical training designed to support coaches in creating positive, inclusive, and motivating sporting environments for young women.

The event was well supported by local coaches, and Mullingar RFC expressed their thanks to all who gave up their time to contribute.

This initiative is part of Mullingar RFC’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of girls’ and women’s rugby in the region.

MRFC U10 Boys kick off season with blitz

Mullingar Rugby Club’s U10 Boys hosted their first blitz of the season at Shay Murtagh Park on Saturday morning, welcoming teams from Birr and Longford.

In total, eight teams took to the field, with players displaying impressive skill, strong tackling, and real commitment throughout the day.

The event marked an excellent start to the season for the U10s, who can look forward to plenty more rugby and development in the months ahead.

MRFC U14 Girls Claim Midlands League Win Over Ravens

The Mullingar RFC U14 Girls recorded their second Midlands League outing of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 19–10 victory over Ravens.

In what proved to be a tough and entertaining contest, Mullingar showed determination and resilience against opponents who fought for every ball. Strong teamwork and persistence saw the home side finish on top to secure an excellent win.

The result highlights the progress of the U14 Girls squad, who continue to build momentum in their league campaign.

MRFC U12 Boys shine in first Midlands blitz

The Mullingar RFC U12 Boys were in action on Saturday morning as they travelled to Longford RFC for the first Midlands Blitz of the season.

Mullingar were well represented with three teams making the trip, competing in a series of matches against Longford, Tullamore, and Birr.

The young players impressed throughout with their running, tackling, and teamwork, showing great promise for the season ahead.

The club extended its thanks to Longford RFC for hosting what was an excellent morning of youth rugby.
