Mullingar Town Band planning to hit right note on trip to USA

Mullingar Town Band have announced an upcoming trip to the United States to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary of independence. The band will jet off to New York in July 2026 and travel to Philadelphia to perform in the Salute to Independence Parade on July 3 in the city where American Independence was proclaimed.

The Town Band then head to Washington DC to perform in the USA’s National Independence Parade before hundreds of thousands of spectators in the capital city. In addition to performing, the members will attend the ‘Capitol Fourth Celebration’ on the Capitol Lawn in Washington DC, an iconic concert in America’s national parliament.

The band will transfer to New York City for the rest of their seven-day trip and visit landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, the Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building.

Mullingar Town Band will perform recitals in Central Park and St Patrick’s Cathedral, two of New York’s most renowned attractions.

It will be a trip of a lifetime for the band’s younger members, some who are just 10 years of age.

The band travelled to the USA in 2004 and in 2008, and this will be their first visit to Philadelphia, Washington DC or New York and the first time they will perform at such notable events.

You can help

In order to make this dream trip a reality, the Town Band are undertaking a huge fundraising effort. The members pay for their own travel but the costs of transporting uniforms, instruments and equipment is a challenge. The band are contacting local and international businesses for sponsorship.

If any local businesses are interested in sponsoring a meal or a bus on a particular day, band management would love to hear from them.

Local supporters of the band can contribute on the GoFundMe page using the QR code. The link is also available on their Facebook page. All involved with the band appreciate the Mullingar support now and over the years.
