Lynnderry Court, Mullingar.

Cars come around corner 'absolutely flying', says Mullingar councillor

A road safety issue at Tullaghan has been raised as a concern with council officials by Cllr Ken Glynn, who asked, successfully, that area engineer Pat Kavanagh meet him on-site to witness the danger.

The topic arose for discussion at the September meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, where Cllr Glynn asked that the district review road safety at Tullaghan, and that in the short term, signage and road markings be installed.

The official written response to his request stated that the district has erected signs and road markings there, but that sight lines might be improved if the local landowner is in agreement. The two men agreed to meet at that location to examine options.

Lynnderry Court

Raising a Mullingar issue, Cllr Glynn asked that the district assist residents of Lynnderry Court who are having difficulty exiting safely from their estate. To improve matters, he suggested, the district should examine measures that would slow down traffic coming from the right (Lynn Road side).

Cllr Glynn stated that he had made it his business one day to stand across the road to observe what happens – and what he saw is that cars come around the corner “absolutely flying”.

Responding, the executive stated that they will be installing ramps along the road at this location “in the next few weeks”.

Green Road

Cllr Glynn also asked that the district carry out road repairs and resurfacing on a section of road at Hillsville, Green Road, Mullingar which was damaged during works by a utility provider.

“The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad has advised that they will consider resurfacing this laneway as part of the 2026 estimates,” Cllr Glynn was informed.

Ardleigh ramps

A further request by Cllr Glynn was that the district consider the installation of a traffic calming measure on a section of road at Ardleigh Vale, due to excess speeds by passing traffic.

To this, the district responded that they would consider the installation of ramps as part of the 2026 estimates.
