'Master of the brush' gives masterclass in Crookedwood

Roy Lyndsay, “a master of the brush”, has said he will return to Devine Art Studios in Crookedwood, after a successful masterclass there on Saturday, his first in Westmeath.

Proprietor, Caithriona Devine, had arranged the workshop, and said Roy “was in his element from beginning to end”.

“He’ll return to give more in the future in Devine Art Studios. He shared valued tips and techniques. He is incredibly talented, a master of the brush.”

The workshop ran from 10am to mid-afternoon, and included an informative and enjoyable talk with painting tips and tricks and a hot lunch.

Roy is a well known artist whose work has sold in auction rooms worldwide; currently, he is selling in Long Island, America.

Attendees enjoyed an interactive talk and live demo with Roy, who shared insights and painting techniques gathered from his years of experience in the international art scene.

Participants had the option to bring their own supplies, but Devine Art Studios also supplied canvas, easels and paints.

Caithriona said: “It’s Roy’s first workshop in a while, and his first one in Westmeath, so we had limited numbers of people attending the workshop, although he will be back again”

Lunch served in the cosy dining area at Devine Art Studios featured beef bourguignon with rice, homemade apple cake (made from apples grown in the studio’s own orchard) and fresh cream.

The complex comprises three large studios, a dining room, a kitchen, and disability toilet, and Caithriona told the Westmeath Examiner she’s planning on expanding: “We’ll be building glamping pods to accommodate up to 16 people – it will be used for mainly art retreats, wellbeing retreats and general tourism for north Westmeath.”

The new barn-style glamping pods will be designed to complement the landscape and blend in to the surrounding area. All will feature double rooms, en-suite facilities and breakfast areas. Guests will have the option of breakfast trays in their pods or hot breakfasts ordered in advance from the studio kitchen.
