Lough Sheever Corporate Park.

Green light given for office plan at Lough Sheever

Westmeath County Council have granted conditional permission for a new office block in Lough Sheever Corporate Park, Mullingar. Sheever Development Ltd made an application in October 2024 to construct a three-storey, multiple occupancy building, and it was approved last week.

The proposed office will connect to the existing services within the estate including foul, watermain and surface water drainage services. The works will also include: provision of a new site entrance, modification of the existing footpath, new footpaths, paving, parking, boundary treatments, ancillary structures including bin stores, bicycle shelter and all associated site development works to complete the development.

The site is located on lands in the north-west corner of Lough Sheever Corporate Park.

This site is zoned ‘Employment and Enterprise’ and a small portion of the lands is zoned ‘Open Space’ in the Mullingar Local Area Plan.

A link to the Royal Canal Greenway – the supply line – lies to the west of the subject site, and alongside that the Dublin Sligo railway line runs for a stretch.

In the planners report it states: “It is the policy of the council to ensure that there is adequate land available to facilitate opportunities for employment creation, and the council will accommodate enterprise and employment uses that are incapable of being situated in a town centre location, provided that such development does not detract from the town centre’s commercial function.”

The council planners reached their decision to grant approval on September 28, and have attached 15 conditions to the project.
