Pink Ribbon coffee morning at rugby club
The Mullingar fundraising committee of the Irish Cancer Society will host a coffee morning, in aid of breast cancer research and awareness, on Friday October 24 from 10am to 1.30pm in the Mullingar Rugby Club.
Marie O’Toole is the chairperson Mullingar Pink Ribbon fundraising committee: “This year’s Mullingar Pink ribbon fundraiser is dedicated to the memory of Catherine Hyne, a former committee member who passed away earlier this year. Catherine gave years of support to the Irish Cancer Society’s fundraising initiatives.”
Marie says public support is vital: “All the services for patients and their families can only be provided by the generous support from the community. By donating, you can make a positive change to those affected by breast cancer. For that reason, we are hoping for a great turnout for our coffee morning in Mullingar Rugby Club.”
The Mullingar Pink Ribbon fund chair says it will be a busy morning: “You can enjoy a coffee, chat and enter a raffle to win a variety of prizes and know that the funds raised are going towards a truly worthy cause.”
October is the Irish Cancer Society’s month dedicated to breast cancer awareness. Each year in Ireland, almost 3,600 women and 35 men are diagnosed with breast cancer.
The condition is more common in those over 50 years of age, but it does and can affect younger people as well. A growing number of women aged between 20 and 49 have faced the diagnosis in recent years.
The funds raised from Pink ribbon during October are channelled specifically towards research and the development of techniques to combat breast cancer and to improve the quality of life for those undergoing treatment. Recent trends in cancer treatment indicate that those who have an early diagnosis of breast cancer can expect a more positive outcome.
