Facing wait over jurisdiction of criminal damage charge

A Mullingar man accused of causing criminal damage to woman’s car in the town last month will have to wait a little longer to find out whether the case is suitable to be tried in the District Court.

Michael Joyce (30), 18 Grange Village, Mullingar, Westmeath, is charged with damaging the back bumper and windscreen of an Audi belonging to a named female at Grange South, Mullingar, Westmeath on September 2, 2025.

When the case was mentioned before Judge Deirdre Gearty last Thursday, state presenter Sgt Sheila Kenny told the court that directions from the DPP were not yet to hand.

Judge Gearty, on being told Mr Joyce was currently on station bail, extended those conditions for a further two months.

Defence solicitor Louis Kiernan was granted a disclosure order concerning the state evidence in relation to the charge.

The case was adjourned to Mullingar District Court on December 11 when DPP directions are expected to be made known.
