Halloween celebration with Fire and Shadows Procession

It's the biggest celebration of Oíche Shamhna in the Midlands and this year The Dead of Night Festival on Halloween night will see thousands flock to Longford Town for a family friendly event.

The celebration of ancient traditions starts with the Fire and Shadows Procession that will kick off at 7.30pm on Friday evening, October 31, from Connolly Barracks and finishing up with a Halloween party on the Market Square.

The Fire and Shadows Procession is a dazzling collision of fire, folklore, and imagination. As the clock strikes 7.30pm on October 31, drums thunder and flares rise as the procession begins its journey from Connolly Barracks and up through Main Street.

Central is the Morrígan, the fearsome Raven Queen of Celtic mythology. This goddess of war, fate, and transformation, will returns to avenge the death of Dagda, the great god of fertility.

With her Tuatha Dé Danann army at her side, she summons chaos and shadow, unleashing banshees, wolves, and spectral figures into the night.

Longford's Fire and Shadows Procession is a living piece of street theatre, combining fire dancers, flare bearers, samba drummers, stilt walkers, shadow puppetry, and giant lanterns.

This free event attracts people from all across the Midlands for an intriguing spectacle.
