Harrison Gardner.

Eco-builder, author and broadcaster to speak on housing crisis

If you are interested in hearing about ways to deal with the housing crisis, an event in Mullingar this evening promises to inform you.

Harrison Gardner, probably best known as presenter of the TV series ‘Build Your Own Home’ on RTÉ, invites people to join him ‘for a conversation and a glass of wine while we explore other ways to solve the housing crisis’ at Cúige on Dominick Street this evening, Wednesday November 5.

He asks: ‘What if the answers to our housing crisis weren’t locked away in government policy or developer margins, but already being built by communities across the country?’

‘When did housing become an act of rebellion?’ is an evening of demonstration, storytelling, and conversation, as Gardner shares tales of rebellion that led to the world’s first community land trust, before sitting down with a special guest to explore how fresh ideas and collective action might open up new paths through Ireland’s housing crisis.

“Come for the stories, stay for the wine, and leave with new ways of imagining what home could mean.”

Gardner is also a writer, and his copies of books, ‘Our Homes: Other Ways to Solve the Housing Crisis’; and ‘Build Your Own: Using What You Have to Create What You Need’ will be available to purchase on the night.

The event is at Cúige Studios, November 5, 7-9.30pm.
