Atlantic Care host coffee morning for hospice

The staff at Atlantic Care on Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar welcomed visitors to their hospice fundraising coffee morning on Friday of last week (October 31).

Teresa Thomson, office manager, said: “What we have today is a Halloween set-up to encourage all the mams and dads out there that might have been restricted and not able to attend because the kiddies have been off from school. We have the office decorated and there are gifts for the children and a free draw.”

The coffee morning continued till 2pm on Friday, and they had lots of people in to enjoy the chat the treats, many of them baked by Noeleen Garvin, “the best baker in the land” said Teresa, mother of Mick Garvin, regional manager, Atlantic Care Midlands.

Mick wasn’t able to be there to enjoy the scones and buns, but that means more for the guests.

Teresa added: “The generosity of people for everything that was set up today has been huge, so it would be great if you could come along and support it.

“Our lovely neighbours here on the street, Days Bazaar, donated some beautiful locally made jams and freshly baked scones that we have here as well, so there’s lots on offer. Trudy from the hospice has been in too, she has been absolutely brilliant.

If anybody has a wish or a want to try and help support the Westmeath Hospice, who provide huge services to families locally, she is a magnificent person to be able to approach and would gladly help out.”

People from the other local businesses in the town, particularly Oliver Plunkett Street, have also been supportive, Teresa said.

The event was initially planned for September 25, the day of the Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice, the annual fundraiser, but illness among the team meant it had to be postponed.

“We postponed it because we wanted to have a little bit more time for forward planning for the mams, the dads, all our carers – who are hugely valued by our company – to be able to attend if at all possible,” said Teresa.
