Mullingar Lions Club getting into the Christmas spirit

The annual Mullingar Lions Club Christmas wreath workshop is fast approaching and what better way to get into the festive spirit.

Lions Club members will be hosting this wonderful seasonal treat in advance of their annual Lions Club Christmas Appeal.

The Lions Club Christmas Appeal dates from the 1980s and remains a central part of the Lions Club Programme, under which clubs throughout the country reach out to the needy in their communities with food and household provisions.

Lions Club member, Frank Dillon, said there is a lot of interest in the forthcoming workshop: “Preparations are in full swing for this year’s Christmas wreath workshop.

What has been a wonderful experience for the last two years, is eagerly awaited this year.”Year on year the workshop has grown in popularity: “What better way to enter into the Advent and Christmas spirit than to come along to Mullingar Harriers Clubhouse on Sunday November 30 and enjoy the camaraderie and fun in making your own special wreath.”

Frank says the wreaths will be available: “People who may not be able to attend can order a wreath by contacting a member. All proceeds will go towards supporting Mullingar Lions Club Christmas Projects to help the Needy.”

Monies raised will go toward projects like the Family Support Programme, operated by the Lions Club since 2011.

This programme continues to support many families and individuals on a weekly basis with fuel, food vouchers, household maintenance and repairs and other various domestic needs. The project operates in tandem with frontline services.

Since 2014, the Lions Club in conjunction with David Smyth Catering provide dinners on Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day for approximately 250 people in the Westmeath area.
