MD seek improved access to Ballinafid Boardwalk

Elected members of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad have written to Inland Fisheries to make the Ballinafid Boardwalk more accessible.

Cllr Julie McCourt called on the authority to make the Multyfarnham amenity more accessible for persons with disabilities, parents with buggies.

Cllr McCourt said: “At present, there is no access. The boardwalk is very narrow, can this be made wider to accommodate everyone.”

The executive informed the MD members that the Ballinafid Boardwalk is under the ownership of Inland Fisheries and suggested members agree to issue a letter to the state body that protects, manages and conserves Ireland's waterways.

The proposal was was supported by Cllr Alfie Jones and it was agreed by the members to issue a letter to Inland Fisheries.

In a separate motion Cllr Alfie Devine asked that the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad consider putting in ramps on the road leading into Finea village.

In their reply the executive said they will consider traffic calming measures at this location as part of the 2026 works estimates.

At the same meeting Cllr Emily Wallace asked for an update on the issuing of parking permits within the district and specifically within Mullingar town for residents and workers within the town.

The executive indicated there are 288 permit holders in Mullingar which include 134 employee permits and 154 resident permits.
