Final adjournment in case of doctor accused of dangerous driving causing death of child
A doctor accused of dangerous driving, causing the death of his six-year-old daughter last year has been granted one final adjournment before he enters a plea.
Babak Meshkat (45), of An Cimín Mór, Cappagh Road, Galway, appeared before Mullingar Circuit Court, charged with dangerous driving causing death on the M6, County Westmeath on February 8, 2024.
He appeared before Judge Kenneth Connolly, but his defence counsel informed the court that they would like one final adjournment.
Cathal Ó’Braonáin, BL, prosecuting, said the state is anxious to make progress in the case, but had no objection to one final adjournment.
Dr Meshkat’s six-year-old daughter, Hana, was severely injured in the crash, which occurred on the eastbound lane of the motorway between Tyrrellspass and Rochfortbridge.
She died at the Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) hospital at Temple Street, Dublin, nine days after the crash.
Judge Connolly noted the case was a “sensitive” matter and adjourned it to January 20 for arraignment.
