Take a bow, all involved in Multy Film Awards

Take a bow, you the almost 100 actors who took your places in the spotlight at the Multyfarnham GAA Film Awards on Friday week last, and the scores of others who helped and supported the event and the fundraising.

The script had been written months ago, and the plans were put in place for what was a huge night at the Johnstown Estate in Enfield. Hosted by Kevin Rowe Events, the Multy Film Awards screening drew a crowd of hundreds, all out to celebrate and socialise and enjoy watching the seven films the various crews had made in the preceding weeks.

Mark Fallon chaired the organising committee, and, speaking to the Westmeath Examiner on behalf of his colleagues and the community at large – as the awards event was a fundraiser to pay for the enhancement of the facilities at Multyfarnham GAA – he said more than 500 tickets were sold “and it was a very well attended event in the glorious venue of the newly refurbished conference centres at the Johnstown Estate”.

The actors were there early on the Friday for the red carpet interviews ahead of the screenings, an essential part of an event that seeks to emulate the glamour of Hollywood to help raise community funds.

A fleet of buses transported audience members to Enfield to enjoy the glitz, view the movies and vote for their favourites.

The main award, for best film or people’s choice, went to The Snapper, and Forrest Gump was a close second. The best actor was Marty Connaughton from Connaughton’s pub in Rathowen for his performance in Forrest Gump, and best actress was Deirdre Orme, who starred in The Field.

“Adrian Kennedy was MC on the night, and did a very good job, so we thank him,” said Mark. “We thank Kevin Rowe, we thank all the actors for everything they’ve done over the last number of months, their fundraising, and all the rest.”

Mark also thanked all the people who put so much time and effort into the productions. “We’re very grateful. We don’t know how much we raised yet, because we’re still collecting money, and the treasurer has been busy this week.” When the figures are tallied, there will be a formal announcement of the amount, and, all going well, there will be a re-run of the night for people in the Multyfarnham area who were unable to make it to the Enfield show. Recordings of the films will also be available.

Concluding, Mark said: “We look forward to seeing everybody for a number of social events that we at Multyfarnham GAA be hosting over 2026.”
