Works at three locations requested by Jones
Updates on a footpath in Drumcree, tree maintenance in Clonmellon, and traffic calming measures at Whitehall school were requested by Cllr David Jones at the December meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.
On the Drumcree footpath, due to be funded from holiday home contributions, the district confirmed that €21,753 has been gathered to date through planning levies for the project, and work is to begin in 2026.
Cllr Jones noted that the figure “hadn’t really changed” since his previous query six months earlier, asking whether more contributions were expected and if works would begin in the coming year. District engineer Pat Kavanagh confirmed that this was the most recent figure from the planning section and that further fees would continue to accrue as additional applications are processed. “I don’t see why we shouldn’t start something there next year,” he added.
Cllr Jones also for tree pruning at the Carraig Mhór housing estate in Clonmellon. Council management advised that the site will be included in the normal tree maintenance schedule during the appropriate pruning season.
In a further motion, Cllr Jones called for traffic-calming measures to be installed near Whitehall school, citing ongoing local concern about road safety. He remarked that the issue “has been brought up on a number of occasions” and that he had received several recent calls from residents. Officials noted that the provision of traffic-calming measures in Whitehall will be considered as part of the 2026 budget estimates.
