Witness appeal following fatal traffic incident near Killucan

Gardaí in Mullingar are appealing for witnesses following a two-car collision in County Westmeath on Friday 19 December.

Shortly before 2.15pm, gardaí responded to a collision involving two vehicles on the Royal Canal Way at Cushinstown, Killucan.

Following the collision one of the drivers involved, a man in his 60s, became unwell and was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

None of the other occupants required treatment.

The scene has been examined and the local coroner has been notified.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged. Results of the post-mortem will assist gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them. Any road users who have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
