The Kilbeggan Players performed a sketch of The Night Before Christmas.

Kilbeggan Players highlight talent in their community

The Kilbeggan Players Drama Society decided this year that they “wanted to take on a project that promoted arts and talent in the community and the best way that we could do that is a concert”, Seoidín Rochford, director of the production told the Westmeath Examiner.

Speaking at the Charity Christmas Concert in St James’s Hall on Sunday, December 21, Seoidín said they further decided to hold their event at this time of the year, and to make it a charity fundraiser, “a way of doing good around Christmastime”.

The charity is the St Vincent de Paul North East and Midlands.

“So blending the two things together, so we have an array of talent, from country to pop to musicals, performing, all local and taking part for a good cause.

“We wanted to do this because we wanted to do something that was festive and that would bring all the community together.

“We thought that was really important, we wanted more of that, to see more of that in the community and we wanted to do something that helped the homeless and people who are struggling this Christmas.”

James McHugh, who produced and hosted the concert along with Seoidín, thanked the other members of Kilbeggan Players Drama Society who were working on the floor on the night, behind the stage and on the stage performing. “It’s a real community sourced event and everyone involved has a part to play whether performing or backstage.”

Both Seoidín and James thanked “everyone who has put in their time to come up on the stage and perform tonight. It’s important that we had all the acts or the show couldn’t be what it is tonight – and a thank you to all the audience who turned up tonight.”
