New GOAL Mile event at Castlepollard Town Park
A new venue has been added to the list of GOAL Mile events lined up for this area around Christmas.
The GOAL Miles that are now well established are at: Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Grounds, Springfield, (N91 PX22) on Christmas Day, 10.30am-12.30pm; Gaine Park, Multyfarnham, Christmas Day, noon-1.30pm; and Castledaly GAA Grounds, (N37 VY64) St Stephen’s Day, noon-2pm. The new one this year is organised by North Westmeath AC to take place in Castlepollard Town Park on Sunday December 28, 10am-noon.
Niamh Morgan from North Westmeath AC said: "Being a GOAL Mile organiser is special as for the first time ever in our new Castlepollard Town Park, we get to see the amazing people of North Westmeath AC and Castlepollard step up for the GOAL Mile and help GOAL raise funds to support the communities where they work.
"We are asking for people to lace up their runners this year and come and join us at our inaugural Castlepollard GOAL Mile. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together with family, friends, and your community to enjoy some festive fresh air while helping to make a real difference for those who need it most. We look forward to you running, walking or ‘crawling’ a mile with us in support of GOAL. Your support is very much appreciated."
Over the last four decades, GOAL Mile has grown to become one of Ireland’s most beloved Christmas traditions, and thousands of people now take part each year to help GOAL raise funds for its life-saving humanitarian aid work with communities facing crisis in Gaza, South Sudan and beyond.
There are more than 200 GOAL Miles this December and into January.
Nafisa Brennan, senior fundraising manager at GOAL, said: "Last year, the GOAL Mile raised €750,000. This year, your involvement can help us make an even bigger impact. At GOAL, we’re calling on you to find your local GOAL Mile and join us for what is always such a fun and memorable event. It’s the people that make GOAL Mile and we thank our incredible organisers in every corner of Ireland for their passion and dedication in making all of this possible."
Niamh Morgan reminds those interested that they can register online: "Select Westmeath as the location and then North Westmeath AC. You can donate by scanning QR codes which our North Westmeath AC club members will have to hand on the day, or place donations in the bucket.
You are also welcome to donate on the fundraising page on the North Westmeath AC Facebook page.
North Westmeath Athletic Club would like to thank Westmeath County Council for their ongoing support in the use of the new town park in Castlepollard for the GOAL mile and the weekly training sessions since September. All club members and locals have reported the positive use and convenience running and training in the new park.
