Relay for Life funds handed over to ICS

Earlier this year an overnight walk in support of the Irish Cancer Society brought a Westmeath community together for an event packed 24 hours.

Relay for Life Westmeath took place in Tyrrellspass on Saturday, September 20 and continues to Sunday, September 21.

Relay For Life, in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, is a 24-hour event bringing local communities together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who have been lost to cancer, and stand shoulder to shoulder with those facing cancer.

Relay for Life events across Ireland recently handed over significant funds to the Irish Cancer Society (ICS), a culmination of year-round community fundraising efforts. These funds support vital cancer research and patient care services like night nursing and the support line.

The funds raised in the Westmeath Relay for Life event held in September (€57,000) were handed over by committee members Lisa Fagan, Suzie Dune, Daisy Carey Stenson, Susan Carey, Joe Daly and Shane Arthur to Charlie O’Toole and Sarah Valliere from the Irish Cancer Society, at Gonoud’s in Tyrrellspass at the end of November.

Next year’s event is planned for September 19-20.
