Young drivers enjoy 'Pedal 4 Fun' at Streete Parish Park
Streete Parish Park was filled with festive cheer on Sunday as Streete Vintage Club hosted its first-ever ‘Christmas Pedal 4 Fun’ Kids Tractor Run.
Children lined up on their pedal tractors, cars and bikes, happily spinning around the hall in a festive environment, with Christmas decorations, music playing in the background, face painting, and hot food and drinks available. The afternoon provided a great community event between Christmas Day and the New Year.
Speaking at the event, PRO Eamon Campbell explained that the idea was born earlier this year during a club meeting. After hosting an appreciation night for adults who had supported the club throughout the year at events such as Cars and Coffee and the annual vintage show, the committee felt it was time to give something back to the younger members of the community.
"We said it was time we did something for the kids," he said. "Our secretary, Niall Tully, suggested an event like this, and once it was mentioned at the meeting, we all got behind it."
The Streete Vintage Club committee includes James Parker (chairman), Kevin Brady (vice-chairman), Niall Tully (secretary), Willie McGlynn (treasurer), and Eamon Campbell (PRO). The group also enlisted the help from locals Orla O’Hara and Denise Tighe, who brought valuable experience and creativity to the event setup and decoration.
The transformation of the parish hall was no small task. With basketball taking place in the hall until 5pm the day before, club members began decorating shortly after, working late to create the festive scene. One of the standout features was a large decorative train, originally built for the Handmade Christmas Market by local dairy farmer John O’Brien and Rory Ryan, who were thanked for their contribution.
The date was carefully chosen for the first Sunday after Christmas, a decision that proved popular. "A lot of the tractors the kids are using today were brought by Santa," Eamon said. "They’re fresh out of the box."
With a strong turnout and positive feedback from families, the club are already hopeful the event will return. "We’d love to be back here again in 2026," Eamon added.
The Christmas Pedal 4 Fun event highlighted the strong community spirit in Streete.
