Delvin disappointment in Town and Village Renewal funding – Jones
The Town and Village Renewal announcements made before Christmas brought welcome news for several communities, but a bit of disappointment for Delvin, says cllr David Jones.
He said that while it is great to see the successful progression of projects that will enhance local life and infrastructure, "I have to acknowledge the frustration felt by communities that were not selected this time for the town and village grant".
"Raharney has been approved to move to the next phase of its playground project, with €18,000 allocated, which is welcome news.
"It is disappointing that Delvin did not secure funding in this round of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. The delay or absence of funding for its application is a setback for local development ambitions that have been in the works for some time."
Cllr Jones also noted that there was NO 2024 Town and Village Renewal Scheme announcement, leaving a gap and stronger competition for communities.
He stated: "I have spent a lot of time on the Delvin expression of interest and pushing for this over the last few years, from before I was elected. I submitted motions and questions once elected and had the support of Westmeath County Council..
"Some communities feel overlooked. The sentiment expressed by many is that north Westmeath has been forgotten again in this cycle of funding."
