Further adjournment for doctor accused of dangerous driving causing death of daughter

A doctor accused of dangerous driving, causing the death of his six-year-old daughter last year has been granted one final chance to obtain a forensic report and consider his plea.

Babak Meshkat (45), of An Cimín Mór, Cappagh Road, Galway, appeared before Mullingar Circuit Court, charged with dangerous driving causing death on the M6, County Westmeath on February 8, 2024.

He appeared before Judge Keenan Johnson for arraignment, but his defence counsel informed the court that further time was needed to examine documents and instruct a forensic engineer.

Dr Meshkat’s six-year-old daughter, Hana, was severely injured in the crash, which occurred on the eastbound lane of the motorway between Tyrrellspass and Rochfortbridge.

She died at the Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) hospital at Temple Street, Dublin, nine days after the crash.

Mr Meshkat will reappear before Mullingar Circuit Court on February 12.
