Road safety warning for St Bridget's weekend

An Garda Síochána Westmeath have taken to social media to advise road users about the hazards to watch out for on Bank holiday weekends.

On their Facebook page they advise: “This Bank Holiday weekend, we are appealing to all road users in Westmeath to stay safe while travelling on the roads.

Our members in the Division will be conducting high visibility patrols and checkpoints over this bank holiday weekend and we encourage all motorists to act in a responsible manner.”

An Garda Síochána Westmeath ward:

● Do not drive under the influence of an intoxicant(s)

● Refrain from using a mobile phone whilst driving

● Keep within the posted speed limits

● Plan your journey and be conscious of aquaplanning

● Take breaks on long journeys

● Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy before setting off

The message concludes: “Enjoy your bank holiday weekend and stay safe!”
