Megan looking for local support for Glór Tíre appearance

“I think I’ve always yearned for the stage,” says own Megan O’Hara, a local country music singer who is to perform on TG4’s country music show, Glór Tíre.

Megan made her musical debut at only two years old. “I’ve been singing all my life,” she said. “My mam, who is a singer, remembers when I was about two or three, and she was singing at a pub gig, I went up, took the microphone off her and started singing myself! I think I’ve always yearned for the stage.”

Next Tuesday, February 3, Megan will appear on season 22 of Glór Tíre.

The singer is from Tubber on the Westmeath, Offaly border and has family in both counties. “We’re spread across Westmeath and Offaly,” she says. “So I’m hoping people in the two counties will get behind me.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here. It’s fantastic. Glór Tíre is a great platform for new country singers who want to get their faces out there, who want to get their music out there, and get experience and knowledge.”

Megan is one of eight contestants on Glór Tíre, battling for the title of Ireland’s Glór Tíre Country Music Champion 2026.

Contestants are mentored by a leading figure in country and Irish music, and Megan is working with Michael English. “I couldn’t ask for better. Michael is absolutely brilliant,” she says.

“He has given me loads of advice, told me to just be myself, make sure I’m owning the stage and doing my thing. He has confidence in me and that’s all I could ask for.”

On Glór Tíre, Megan will perform ‘Let Him Go, Let Him Tarry’, popularised in Ireland by Cliona Hagen, and will sing a duet with Michael English, ‘The Last Thing On My Mind’, known from the Daniel O’Donnell and Mary Duff version.

Having come from a musical family, Megan and her mother have a band together called The Band Sí.

“The nerves are gone now. I don’t have time to be nervous any more,” she says as she prepares to step up to the Glór Tíre stage. “I grew up with country music. It’s in the blood.”

Glór Tíre is presented by Aoife Ní Thuairisg and produced by Galway-based Gael Media. Jó Ní Chéide and Caitriona Ní Shuilleabháin return as resident judges. The guest judge is singer and RSVP country editor, Trudi Lalor.
